Bordumsa Mahila Mandal

About Us

Bordumsa Mahila Mandal in its inception stage consisted of few like-minded women hailing from different communities residing in Bordumsa Township. Later it was expanded and extended to villages of Bordumsa Circle. Initially, its objectives were to come up with a common platform to discuss the problems of women and children as problems of womenfolk in the area were always unattended.

On 24th April 1993, the organization formed an Executive Body to look into the problems of individual women, and society as a whole.

In 1996 the organization was registered as an NGO by the government after which it took up the cause of opium de-addiction since it affected the local society and concerned household individuals especially women. Opium de-addiction campaigns and camps were organized with the help of the state Health Department and its members. Awareness campaigns were launched. The responsibilities of women were enlightened.

Economic activities like the development of women and children in rural areas (DWCRA) under Rural Development were taken up. Women were imparted training on weaving, knitting, and tailoring. Literary activities like essay writing competitions for students were conducted. Sensitization programs on the role of women, their empowerment, and education on domestic violence were conducted.

Bordumsa Mahila Mandal celebrates International Women’s Day every year for the unity, solidarity, and equality of women. It conducts various activities and programs where the women of Bordumsa Circle participate and discuss the plight, prospect, and role of women in society.

Since 2016 the organization has been entrusted to implement schemes under North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Project for Upland Areas (NERCORMP) overseeing 24 villages under Bordumsa Circle. Bordumsa Mahila Mandal has, is, and will always take an active part in the uplifting of the womenfolk in particular and the society as a whole.
